Mannheim (dpa / lsw) – According to the Verdi union, around 1,200 trainees and junior staff in the public sector demonstrated in the ongoing wage conflict. There were actions by young people from all over the country in Mannheim and Esslingen, as the union announced on Wednesday in Stuttgart.

The collective bargaining conflict affects the public service of the federal government and the municipalities. The employers had submitted an offer in the second round of the nationwide negotiations in Potsdam on Thursday. The unions immediately rejected it. The offer includes, among other things, a pay increase of five percent in two steps and one-off payments totaling 2,500 euros.

Verdi and the civil servants’ association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more per month. The employer side had rejected the demands as “unaffordable”. For Friday there is a Verdi call to local public transport employees in Stuttgart, Freiburg, Mannheim and other cities in the south-west to stop working all day.
