Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – After a corona-related slump, the situation for the tourism industry in the south-west has improved significantly again. In the past winter season, from November 2021 to April 2022, the number of overnight stays increased by around 151 percent compared to the same period last year. As the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday based on preliminary figures in Stuttgart, around 16.7 million overnight stays were counted in the southwest. A plus of more than 10 million overnight stays.

However, the industry is still lagging behind the level from the seasons before the Corona crisis. Because in winter 2018/2019 there were still 22.3 million overnight stays. Patrick Rapp (CDU), State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics, said that the fact that more holidaymakers had decided to go to the south-west again was a positive signal for the industry. “Even if the pre-crisis level has not yet been reached, the industry can confidently start the summer season,” said Rapp.
