Donauwörth (dpa / lby) – A car rolled into a lake in Donauwörth and went under. The 51-year-old driver parked it in a parking lot next to the lake and went swimming. The man had engaged a gear, but not pulled the handbrake, as the police announced on Thursday.
The car rolled backwards down the slope into the lake. In the meantime, the man had been swimming with his daughter and had not noticed the accident. Witnesses called rescue workers who pulled the wrecked car out of the lake with a winch. The driver was finally found among the bathers via loudspeaker announcements from the police car and made aware of the mishap. The car was a total loss of almost 5,000 euros in the incident on Wednesday.
