Fürth (dpa / lby) – The public prosecutor’s office at the Nuremberg-Fürth district court has brought charges against the truck driver who is said to have partially devastated a street in Fürth in February with his alcohol drive. The prosecution holds the 51-year-old guilty of endangering road traffic, unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident, negligent arson and negligent bodily harm in several cases, as announced on Thursday.

According to the investigation, the man had driven his trailer truck through a red traffic light and then into a residential street in February with more than two per thousand alcohol in the blood. There he rammed several cars, pushed them into each other and set several vehicles on fire – including his own truck.

The fire spread to adjacent buildings. Several people were injured, according to the public prosecutor’s office, a man could only save himself by jumping on the hood of a car from the truck loaded with 26 tons of machine components, which is said to have thundered through the service road at 70 km/h.

The public prosecutor’s office put the damage to property at 200,000 euros to a total of 31 affected vehicles and 500,000 euros to the buildings. The suspect has been in custody since the crime. He essentially admitted the allegations. The chairman of a court of lay judges at the District Court of Fürth must now decide whether to admit the indictment.
