Wesel (dpa/lnw) – To defuse a ten hundredweight bomb from the Second World War, Wesel’s city center will be closed for two hours on Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. The bomb was discovered during construction work.
Almost 8,000 people within a radius of 500 meters around the site had to leave their homes or business premises. The city said the defusing was scheduled for 4 p.m. A collection point is offered for people who have left their homes. Numerous streets in the city center will also be closed, including the federal highways B8 and B58. However, the heavily frequented Rhine bridge near Wesel and rail traffic will remain free.
