Munich (dpa / lby) – A component weighing several tons fell backwards on a construction site at Munich Ostbahnhof. When working on a new bridge, supports gave way on Monday, the police said on Tuesday. An abutment, a massive substructure of the bridge, then tilted. Other parts of the structure threatened to collapse.
Nobody was harmed during the accident. The construction workers heard a crunch and got to safety in time. According to a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn, the pedestrian underpass at Ostbahnhof and rail traffic were not affected by the restrictions. The busy Balanstraße was completely closed because of the accident. Police expect the lockdown to continue for several days.
