Germering (dpa / lby) – During a search of an apartment in the Upper Bavarian district of Fürstenfeldbruck, the police found poisonous snakes in addition to marijuana. It was two boa constrictors and two ball pythons as well as two desert horned vipers, as the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North announced on Wednesday.
The two vipers are therefore classified as requiring a permit in Bavaria – but the 38-year-old pet owner from Germering was unable to produce a permit during the search on Tuesday. According to the police, the attitude of the six exotic animals did not quite meet the animal welfare requirements.
Due to the lack of approval, the desert horned vipers were confiscated by the officials and handed over to the reptile sanctuary in Munich. The man was allowed to keep the other snakes subject to conditions. However, a prompt follow-up inspection was ordered.
In addition to illegally possessing the snakes, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also found in the home and confiscated. Among other things, criminal proceedings were initiated against the 38-year-old on suspicion of illegal acquisition and possession of marijuana.
