Munich (dpa / lby) – EHC Red Bull Munich finally wants to win the title in the Champions League this season. “In the 2018/19 season we only just missed out on winning the title. We were close again this year, which gave us enormous self-confidence. This time we want to bring the trophy home,” announced coach Don Jackson on Wednesday. Captain Patrick Hager emphasized: “We want to be there to the end and win the last game.”

In 2019, the Munich team even made it to the final. Last season, the German runners-up lost in the semifinals (0:3) against the Finnish record champions Tappara Tampere.

In the group phase, the Munich team will meet last year’s finalists from Tampere again. The other opponents in Group C are Slovan Bratislava from Slovakia and the Swiss from Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Coach Jackson’s team will also play their group start against Rapperswil on September 1st.

From Germany, in addition to the Munich team, champions Eisbären Berlin, the Grizzlies Wolfsburg and the Straubing Tigers are also there. In their premier class premiere in Group F, Lower Bavaria will face Färjestad Karlstad from Sweden, the Austrians from Villach SV and Comarch Krakow from Poland. The defending champion is Rögle BK from Sweden.
