Weiden (dpa / lby) – After an attack with a 90 centimeter long sword in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate, a 65-year-old woman was housed in a psychiatric clinic. She is suspected of suddenly attacking three men on Tuesday afternoon. The allegation is attempted murder in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm and violation of the weapons law, as the police announced on Wednesday. There is a suspicion of a psychiatric illness.

The men attacked are 46, 58 and 61 years old. The 61-year-old suffered a cut on his arm that required surgery. He was still in a clinic on Wednesday. The 46-year-old received outpatient treatment because of a superficial cut in the hospital, the police said. The 58-year-old was physically unharmed.

A 23-year-old employee of a restaurant had rushed to help the three men. According to the police, they overpowered the attacker together. Officers later found two machetes, an ax and several knives in the woman’s car, a German national.

The suspect is said to have tried to injure a 63-year-old man in Vohenstrauß (Neustadt an der Waldnaab district) on Tuesday morning – possibly with the sword used in Weiden.
