Munich (dpa/lby) – Despite rising costs for heating, Bavaria’s universities want to keep their doors open for students in winter. The chairwoman of the Universität Bayern association, Sabine Doering-Manteuffel, announced on Friday in Munich that classroom teaching would not be shaken. “It would be irresponsible to burden the students, who have already suffered greatly in the corona pandemic, again and to carry the energy crisis on their backs.”
Of course, the universities are willing to make their contribution and exhaust all savings opportunities. The room temperature in offices and classrooms is reduced to 19 degrees in accordance with government regulations.
“After the hardships that the purely digital semesters have brought with them for the students, the vast majority of university management sees no alternative for classroom teaching, interaction and discussion on campus and personal encounters between students and lecturers for the coming winter semester 2022/2023 “, stressed Doering-Manteuffel.
The additional costs for heating have not yet been recorded in the households. One would therefore like the universities to be supported by the Free State in compensating for the additional costs, said Doering-Manteuffel. Universität Bayern e.V. is the association of eleven Bavarian universities. Doering-Manteuffel is President of the University of Augsburg.
