Erlangen (dpa/lby) – After two years of the Corona compulsory break, thousands of visitors are celebrating again at the Erlangen Bergkirchweih for the first time. The folk festival was officially opened on Thursday afternoon with the tapping of the barrel. According to the city, it is Bavaria’s oldest and attracts around a million guests every Whitsunday. Already at the start there was a dense rush in warm summer temperatures; Masks were not to be seen.
Numerous fairground rides and booths as well as 15 marquees and cellars will provide entertainment and invite you to celebrate until June 13th. The folk festival ends on the last day with the traditional beer funeral. The landlords pull through the crowd with shovel, pickaxe and one last keg of festival beer to bury it.
