Munich (dpa / lby) – FC Bayern wants to take over the top of the table in the Bundesliga again. Coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side welcome FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday (3:30 p.m.). “We played two bad games against Mainz last season. The table situation alone is a great motivation for us,” said Nagelsmann before the twelfth matchday. If successful, Bayern would replace Union Berlin as the front runner at least until Sunday.
Last season, FC Bayern beat Mainz 2-1 at home in the Allianz Arena and lost 3-1 away. Munich are currently second in the table, one point behind Union Berlin, who host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and attacker Thomas Müller are missing from Munich because of injuries against Mainz.
FC Augsburg have to play at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday (3.30 p.m.). “The necessary respect is definitely there. Stuttgart has a young and strong squad that shows enormous quality despite the inconsistent results,” coach Enrico Maassen warned his team. The Stuttgart team is currently being coached by former Augsburg assistant coach Michael Wimmer.
