Bamberg (dpa/lby) – The ETA Hoffmann Theater in Bamberg receives this year’s award from the German Theater Publishers. With the undoped award, the jury honored the house’s continuous and consistent commitment to contemporary drama, as the Association of German Stage and Media Publishers announced on Tuesday in Berlin. “The intelligent repertoire design reflects the conviction that new plays are indispensable for dealing with the pressing issues of the present,” was the reasoning.

The ETA Hoffmann Theater does not provide quick explanations and simple certainties, but rather invites the audience to come together and approach the key question that stands at the heart of every season. Currently, this question is something like: “How vulnerable, how vulnerable are we?”.

In the search for answers, artistic director Sibylle Broll-Pape and her team included contemporary authors as a matter of course right from the start through regular commissions, world premieres and restages. “In the eighth season, in combination with classical works, there is now a wealth of perspectives that make the ETA Hoffmann Theater a place of diverse aesthetic experience and lively socio-political discussion,” it said.
