Günzburg (dpa / lby) – The diocese of Augsburg has banned a clergyman from performing priestly services with immediate effect on suspicion of a sexual crime. The diocese announced on Wednesday that the man from the deanery in Günzburg was accused of sexually assaulting an adult. Corresponding criminal proceedings are underway against the Catholic clergyman. The crime is said to have happened five years ago.
“The ban on the exercise of priestly services is a precautionary measure, since the presumption of innocence applies until the end of the process,” emphasized diocese spokesman Ulrich Bobinger. The judicial authorities were initially unable to find out any further details about the case on Wednesday.
