Ebelsbach (dpa / lby) – A senior had seen through him: A suspected telephone fraudster was arrested in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge. The 50-year-old suspect had previously posed as a police officer to the 68-year-old and claimed that a relative had to go to prison as the cause of the accident, the police and the public prosecutor announced on Thursday. A bail should prevent that.
The 68-year-old recognized the scam, but gave himself willingly on the phone, as it was said. Believing he was looting several thousand euros, the 50-year-old came to the previously agreed meeting point in Ebelsbach on Tuesday afternoon. Instead of cash, several police officers were waiting for the scammer. He was provisionally arrested and brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday. On his orders, the 50-year-old had to be imprisoned.
