Munich (dpa / lby) – A 76-year-old woman handed over gold coins worth more than 100,000 euros to tricksters in Munich. One of the perpetrators pretended to be a police officer during a so-called shock call, the police said on Thursday. Accordingly, the elderly woman’s husband explained by phone on Tuesday that her daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident and demanded bail from her – otherwise the daughter would have to go to prison.

The 76-year-old then drove to her bank branch and took the gold coins out of her locker. When she got home, the perpetrator called again, according to the police, and instructed the woman to hand over the coins to a person who would collect them in front of her house. It was only when the elderly woman called her daughter after the handover that she recognized the fraud and called the police.
