Augsburg (dpa / lby) – A speeder exceeded the speed limit by 80 kilometers per hour in Augsburg and was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence, among other things. As a spokeswoman for the district court announced on Tuesday, the judge charged the 24-year-old with negligent endangerment of road traffic, prohibited motor vehicle racing, attacking law enforcement officers and insults. The man admitted the fact from the summer of 2021. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The police confiscated the man’s driver’s license during the incident. Once the verdict is final, his driver’s license will be suspended for a further two years.

A civilian police patrol followed the man within Augsburg at the time. At an intersection, the now 24-year-old turned around and showed the police officers an L with two fingers – as a sign for “Loser” (loser). The officers followed the man, who fled at up to 140 kilometers per hour – 60 km/h is allowed on the road. He ignored several red traffic lights and overtook illegally.

Several road users were therefore endangered, he hit a car head-on. Its driver was slightly injured. The speeder didn’t stop. When his damaged vehicle rolled to a halt, the man tried to flee on foot. The police officers asked him and his passenger to stop at gunpoint. When he was arrested, the man resisted and tried to grab a service weapon. He was also under the influence of drugs.
