The pleadings of the co-plaintiffs could then follow, and on Tuesday it will be the turn of the defense. A verdict would be possible on Thursday.
Since April, a mentally ill refugee from Somalia has had to answer to the Würzburg Regional Court in security proceedings. It has been proven that on June 25, 2021, he killed three unknown women with a knife in the city center. There were also four seriously injured women. An 11-year-old girl and a 16-year-old were also seriously injured. There were also three minor injuries.
The Attorney General accuses the accused, among other things, of murder in three cases, attempted murder in eleven cases and dangerous bodily harm. According to the application, the authority wants to place the man permanently in a psychiatric ward because he is said to be dangerous to the general public.
“There is no doubt that the accused suffers from paranoid schizophrenia,” said the medical director of the Werneck Castle Hospital for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine, Hans-Peter Volz, in court last Friday.
Voices in his head are said to have prompted the fugitive to attack the unsuspecting people. Fears shortly after the fact that the man had acted for terrorist reasons or religious beliefs were not confirmed.
