Altendorf (dpa / lby) – A truck from a transport company loaded with packages burned out completely near Altendorf in Upper Franconia. The police spoke of a technical defect. The driver suddenly noticed smoke and flames between his driver’s cab and the trailer while driving on the Jurastraße in the direction of Buttenheim, the police in Bamberg said on Saturday.

The 33-year-old driver was able to stop his team on Friday evening and get to safety unharmed. The investigators estimate the total damage at around 200,000 euros. Around 50 fire brigades from surrounding towns were deployed to extinguish the fire. Towing and haulage companies eventually got rid of the truck and the burned cargo.
