Bischofswiesen (dpa/lby) – The driver of a minibus was seriously injured in an accident in Bischofswiesen (Berchtesgadener Land district). On Friday evening, the 65-year-old wanted to drive his VW bus over an unrestricted level crossing that was not controlled by traffic lights, the Bavarian Red Cross said. The man overlooked an approaching regional train.
Despite the warning tone and emergency braking, the train hit the minibus and dragged the vehicle around 40 meters. Shortly before the train stopped, the minibus slid about four meters down the embankment to the Bischofswiesener Ache and landed with the front in the river. Rescue workers treated the injured, freed him from the wreckage and took him to a hospital.
A rail replacement bus service was organized for the passengers of the train. A crisis intervention service took care of those affected.
