Schirnding (dpa / lby) – A 17-year-old brought several forbidden knives to Germany from a trip to the Czech Republic with his grandmother – including a machete. Officials checked the young people on Wednesday on the train at Schirnding station (Wunsiedel district), as the border police announced on Thursday. He had a butterfly knife, a switchblade knife with two long blades and a machete in his backpack.
According to a police spokesman, such weapons are freely available in the Czech Republic. It is not known whether the grandmother knew about the purchases. The police confiscated the knives and are now investigating the 17-year-old. The youth was allowed to return home with his 78-year-old grandmother on the same day.
