Fürth (dpa / lby) – Coach Alexander Zorniger has to do without two important offensive players at his premiere with SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 2nd Bundesliga. As the successor to Swiss Marc Schneider, who was on leave, announced on Thursday, Julian Green and Timothy Tillman are both out due to illness. “We have to get as many points as possible as quickly as possible. That’s how we approach the game,” stressed Zorniger before the duel between the two Bundesliga relegated teams on Friday evening (6:30 p.m. / Sky) at home against Arminia Bielefeld.
The new Fürth coach left it open whether there would be another goalkeeper change against the penultimate team. But a decision has already been made, Zorniger revealed. Interim coach Rainer Widmayer gave preference to Leon Schaffran over goalkeeper Andreas Linde in the 3-1 draw against 1. FC Heidenheim.
Zorniger (55) has only been in office since Monday. He would like to give the bottom of the table the “perhaps a little lost” self-confidence back as quickly as possible. Zorniger also wanted to see with his players in the training sessions during the week: “Who shows through body language: I’m there.”
