Munich (dpa/lby) – The Bavarian cabinet has proposed October 8, 2023 as the date for the next state election in Bavaria. This was announced by Head of the State Chancellery Florian Herrmann (CSU) on Tuesday after a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Munich. At the same time, the election of the district assemblies should also take place.
Herrmann emphasized that this was not the final decision on the election date. First of all, there will be a formal hearing of the parties in the responsible Ministry of the Interior, after which the cabinet will probably make a final decision on the election date in December.
According to Article 16 of the Bavarian Constitution, the election will take place “at the earliest 59 months and at the latest 62 months after the day on which the previous state parliament was elected”. Since the 2018 state election was on October 14, the parliament must be elected between September 17 and December 10, 2023.
There is no major time pressure for the decision yet, the date must be announced at least five months before the election – so even if the election were in mid-September, there would still be time until next spring.
