Augsburg (dpa / lby) – FC Augsburg has sold striker Sergio Cordova (25) to the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer (MLS). As the Bundesliga club announced on Monday, both clubs have agreed not to disclose the amount of the transfer fee. The Venezuelan striker moved to Augsburg from FC Caracas on a free transfer in the summer of 2017.
But he could not fight for a regular place. In the 2020/21 season, Cordova was loaned to Arminia Bielefeld within the Bundesliga. Most recently, he spent a season with Real Salt Lake City in the USA.
“Sergio Córdova signaled early on that he would like to continue playing in the MLS. After we were able to sign a lot of quality on the offensive in winter, we wanted to give him this chance in Vancouver, especially since the economic conditions of the change suit us.” , explained Augsburg’s sports director Stefan Reuter.
The Augsburgers had previously given midfielder Carlos Gruezo to the MLS to the San José Earthquakes.
