Hanover (dpa / lby) – Before the second division game at bottom Jahn Regensburg, Hanover’s coach Stefan Leitl made a plea for his Regensburg colleague Mersad Selimbegovic. “First of all, I believe that Mersad Selimbegovic has done an exceptionally good job in Regensburg in recent years. And that one or the other in the environment may have dreamed of things that I can’t achieve in Regensburg, namely the Bundesliga,” said Leitl on Thursday at his press conference on this game (Saturday/1 p.m./Sky).
Before moving to Hanover, the native of Munich coached SpVgg Greuther Fürth and FC Ingolstadt in the 2nd Bundesliga. Therefore, both coaches have known each other for a long time. Jahn Regensburg is a club “that gets the most out of limited resources. You have to take your hat off to that,” said Leitl.
He wishes Selimbegovic “all the best after Saturday. And of course I hope that they stay calm in Regensburg and give him the necessary time to get things going in the right direction. What is always to be expected: that a club like Regensburg is in danger of relegation .” Leitl is certain: “If they come to their senses and stay true to themselves, then they have a good chance of staying in the league. But then the maximum goal for Regensburg has been achieved, namely staying up in the league.”
Der Jahn has lost six of the last seven games in the 2nd division and fell back to 18th place in the table after the 1-0 loss at 1. FC Nürnberg last weekend.
