Regensburg (dpa / lby) – After a brutal attack with a beer mug during the Gillamoos folk festival, the perpetrator was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison. The accused was found guilty, among other things, of dangerous bodily harm, said a spokeswoman for the Regensburg district court on Friday. The Bayern media group reported on the verdict, which was announced on Thursday.

During the folk festival in Abensberg, Lower Bavaria (Kelheim district), the 37-year-old hit a man in the face with a beer mug in an argument. The victim suffered serious head injuries. The public prosecutor classified the act as attempted manslaughter, but the criminal court saw no intent to kill.

The Gillamoos is one of the most famous folk festivals in Bavaria. The rallies, which take place there every year at the beginning of September at the same time in several festival tents, often with high-ranking politicians, are now a nationwide political spectacle, like the political Ash Wednesday.
