Regensburg (dpa / lby) – SSV Jahn Regensburg is looking forward to another big cup evening. After winning the first round on penalties, coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s team is aiming for a win on Wednesday (8:45 p.m. / Sky) in a duel between two second division football teams against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Against Cologne, the Upper Palatinate won with nerves of steel from the point – which seems to be a strength of Regensburg. In the 2020/21 season, they all decided the first three games on penalties.

“There are always boys who do this part of the training, even five weeks before the cup game, that happens again and again,” said Selimbegovic. “There are many who take penalties against the goalkeeper in a competition. It’s always about breakfast or something.” Ultimately, however, that is difficult to train because you never know who will still be on the pitch after 120 minutes and who can still shoot.

“It’s a lot more head, mental readiness and conviction when you go there,” Selimbegovic said. “I’m not the kind of friend who says everyone has to shoot ten more today or tomorrow.”

In the 4: 3 against Cologne, the Regensburgers kept their nerves in the summer. In the 2020/21 season they won against Kaiserslautern, Wehen Wiesbaden and also against Cologne. At that time, the quarter-finals against Werder Bremen was the end of the line.
