Regensburg (dpa / lby) – SSV Jahn Regensburg will continue to work with coach Mersad Selimbegovic in the future. As the second division soccer team from the Upper Palatinate announced on Wednesday, the 40-year-old’s contract, which expires in the summer, has been automatically extended by another season until June 30, 2024. Selimbegovic has held several positions at the club since 2006. In 2019 he succeeded Achim Beierlorzer as coach and always led the Regensburg team to stay up in the league.

“Mersad stands for everything that distinguishes SSV Jahn and makes it strong, from our values ??to our game idea. In addition to his outstanding technical, methodical and human skills, Mersad has in recent months put the Jahn annual motto “Forwarding together” with enormous personal commitment and thus provided decisive impetus both on and off the pitch,” said managing director Philipp Hausner in praise of the Jahn trainer.

Selimbegovic said of his contract extension: “When I think about what has happened at SSV Jahn in the past few years, it makes me very proud. Being able to be part of this development is what drives me every day, my best for him to give to SSV Jahn.”

Regensburg lost important players again this summer. Nevertheless, this time Selimbegovic managed to stabilize the team after a bumpy start to the season with many loan players. Jahn is currently in ninth place in the 2nd Bundesliga.

However, Selimbegovic has to do without his captain Benedikt Gimber for several weeks. The midfielder sustained a tendon and capsule injury in his left shoulder. Gimber was injured in a duel in the 2-1 win against SV Sandhausen on Saturday and had to be replaced.
