Officials state Christian Secor — a 22-year-old student at the University of California, Los Angeles, who’s publicly espoused white supremacy perspectives on the internet — has been ordered held without bond Tuesday during his initial appearance in federal court.
He also broadcast a livestream in the Capitol, police said, using a username which seems to be a reference to some guy who murdered six people from Isla Vista, California, at 2014. Secor previously bragged he wouldn’t be captured, officials explained.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an lawyer who might talk on his or her behalf.
Court records reveal pictures of a man supposed to be Secor sporting a reddish Make America Great Again hat and sitting in a seat on the dais at which Pence had sat and presided over the Senate as lawmakers accredited Electoral College votes.
At least 11 tipsters identified Secor into the FBI since the individual seen in the pictures and movies, occasionally carrying a big blue”America First” flag, police said.
Last year at UCLA, based on court records, Secor was accused of inciting racism by remarks and tweets about Jews and immigrants. In addition, he set a student group named America First Bruins in the university.
UCLA said advice on Secor wasn’t readily available to the general public.
“As an institution, UCLA is dedicated to mutual respect, making conclusions based on signs and using logical debate rather than physical violence,” Bill Kisliuk, manager of media relations, stated in an email.
