Thursday, June 2nd, the children of Chorges’ primary school participated in the Loop of Diabetes to raise awareness of The Ilets of Langerhans. This association brings together hundreds of families with insulin-dependent diabetes (IDD), and devotes all its online activities to these children.
Florence Luthy, Sandrine Xailly and their teachers, as well as Caroline Boucher and Geoffrey Boucher (the parents of Lucas, type 1, did the Diabetes loop. This 7km hike left the school and passed through the Curattes before arriving at Saint-Michel bay. Claudine Corrette, Christine Richard and their teachers, from the CE1 and CP classes, participated in this day, which included a course through Parc des Moulettes.
Lucas’ parents stated that they wanted to start the Diabetes Loop in order to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes. We have witnessed the prejudice and lack of knowledge about type 1 diabetes in our 8-year old son. He was diagnosed November 15, 2020. It’s an autoimmune disease. Although we try to make his life as similar as the one before, it can be quite complicated. Since the diagnosis of our son, he has had more than 2,500 injections. The mental load on his parents is immense. We have to be psychologists, dieticians, and nurses… We regret not having more resources to research, prevent, or heal. This association is fighting to change the lines. It is unacceptable that these children are not more integrated into daily life. Lucas’ teacher is very kind and caring. Unfortunately, many other children are not as fortunate.
