FORT LEE – Police rescued Grandbetting a suicidal man with a gun from the George Washington Bridge, according to news reports.

According to 7online.com, the man was holding onto the side of the rail and waving what officials described as a starter pistol.

The man was apparently suicidal as police approached him mid-span on the west side of the bridge.

The gun was confiscated and police pulled the man to safety, the report said.

As the incident unfolded about 10:20 a.m., police closed all upper level lanes.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported police activity on the upper level of the bridge and advised motorists to use the lower level.

NBC New York reported police had grabbed a man hanging from the side of the bridge.
