The opposition is increasing the pressure on Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) when it comes to heat protection in nursing homes. The Ministry of Health had declared a few days ago that the homes were responsible for this themselves and that there would be no additional funds. At the same time, there are plans to invest heavily in hospitals in this area. The SPD in the state parliament considers it wrong that the nursing homes are left alone.
“The climate adaptation measures of the state government must not be limited to hospitals. The nursing homes also urgently need support here, ”said the deputy SPD parliamentary group leader Lisa-Kristin Kapteinat of the dpa. Laumann cannot simply shift the responsibility onto the institutions. “He must also become active himself and take the initiative. Those in need of care and their relatives rightly expect that from him.”
Kapteinat now wants to know from the government via a small inquiry whether it sees possibilities for a special fund to quickly implement temperature adjustment measures. Frank Hensel, Director of the Diocesan Caritas Association in the Archdiocese of Cologne, recently called for a corresponding special fund in the “Rheinische Post”.
