Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Hesse’s farmers harvested an above-average total amount of grain and winter rapeseed this year. As the State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Wiesbaden, according to preliminary figures, 2.0 million tons of grain and 192,300 tons of winter rape were brought in. Because of the drought and heat, this year’s harvest was already completed at the beginning of August. On a six-year average, the annual crop harvest is 1.9 million tons for grain and 166,800 tons for winter rape, as reported by the state office.
Among other things, the unusually high yields of winter barley contributed to the increase this year. The yield of the winter wheat harvest was also better than the six-year average. According to the information, 463,700 hectares of the approximately 767,200 hectares of agricultural land in Hesse were arable land. The most important type of grain was winter wheat (including spelt).
