Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (left) sees the planned change in day-care center funding by the federal government as endangering language day-care centers, which have previously been separately supported. “This is a sham,” said Oldenburg on Friday in Schwerin. She was reacting to the Federal Cabinet’s decision on Wednesday to integrate the “Language Kitas” program, which is due to expire at the end of the year, into the new “Kita Quality Act”, the successor to the Good Kita Act, without reallocating the funds.
According to the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, federal funds totaling 248 million euros are still available for the current year for the targeted support of children with special language needs, more than 4 million will be received by the around 140 language day-care centers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
