Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – At the beginning of the Christmas holidays, drivers in Hesse have to be prepared for considerable traffic delays. Many main travel routes such as Autobahn 3 and the A5 are likely to reach their capacity limits, especially on Thursday and Friday (December 22nd and 23rd), as the ADAC Hessen-Thuringia announced on Tuesday. On these days, travel, commuter traffic and Christmas shoppers caused a lot of traffic in city centers. According to the ADAC traffic jam forecast, full streets can be expected by Saturday noon (Christmas Eve). After a quiet Christmas Day (December 25), the ADAC expects heavy traffic again on Monday afternoon (December 26) due to holidaymakers.
Traveling by car is easier than in the previous year due to the abolition of corona travel restrictions, but due to price increases, travel traffic at the level before the pandemic is not to be expected. The traffic club recommends researching travel routes before departure to avoid traffic jams. In addition, the car should be fit for winter. It is also helpful to take thermos flasks with tea and blankets with you so that you can bridge longer waiting times when the temperature is low.
