Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Triggered by a random tram check, police officers in Frankfurt’s Ostend were able to secure drugs and arrest four people. During the check on Tuesday, the officials noticed a person “who was conspicuously trying to evade the police officers’ gaze,” as the police headquarters reported on Wednesday.

The man left the train at a stop and ran away, but the police officers caught up with the 39-year-old after a short time. During the search they found almost 100 grams of hashish, 3100 euros in cash and a pocket knife. The man was registered in Maintal (Main-Kinzig district) – nothing illegal was initially found in his apartment there.

However, the man still had the keys to his old apartment in Frankfurt’s Ostend. When the police entered this apartment, colleagues in front of the house observed that something was being thrown from the balcony of the neighboring apartment. According to the police report, it was around 830 grams of hashish, almost 4 grams of cocaine and around 120 grams of marijuana.

The police then visited the neighbors and found around 210 grams of hashish there. The two people in the apartment, an 18-year-old and a 33-year-old, were arrested. Around four kilograms of hashish were found in the 39-year-old’s former apartment. A 20-year-old man who was there was also arrested. All four have been taken to police headquarters holding cells and are due to appear before a judge.
