Gießen (dpa / lhe) – Hesse’s hospitals will receive more money for treatments in the new year. The Gießen regional council, as the responsible state authority, approved the so-called state base case value for 2023 shortly before the turn of the year. The remuneration of Hessian hospitals will thus increase by 4.37 percent in the new year.

“This is an important signal, especially in the economically difficult times for hospitals,” said Giessen District President Christoph Ullrich on Tuesday. The basic price for individual services and thus the overall budget of each individual hospital changes as a result of the state base case value.

Since January 1, the state base case value has been EUR 3,993.73 without and EUR 3,995.60 with compensation for previous years. According to the regional council, the total budget for all 147 hospitals in Hesse amounts to around 4.43 billion euros. The approval was preceded by an agreement at state level between the Hessian Hospital Society and the state associations of social security institutions.

Hospitals do not receive individual remuneration for treatments, but so-called flat rates per case. In order to calculate the price of a flat rate per case, the so-called valuation ratio is multiplied by the state base case value. Example: A natural birth has a weighting of 0.491 points; multiplied by the state base case value, this means that the hospital gets 1961.84 euros for it.
