Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Hesse’s former Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) receives the seal of honor from the Jewish community in Frankfurt. “The promotion and protection of Jewish life has always been a particular concern of the 70-year-old,” the community board explained on Friday. Bouffier has “always emphasized the importance of remembering the Holocaust and honoring the victims of the Shoah”.
The seal of honor is awarded at irregular intervals to outstanding personalities from politics, culture and city events as well as Jewish institutions who have made a special contribution to Jewish life in Frankfurt and Hesse. It is the highest award from the Jewish community in Frankfurt and is being presented for the 13th time.
Previous winners include the former Prime Minister of Hesse, Walter Wallmann, the former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Ignatz Bubis, and the Holocaust survivor Trude Simonsohn. The ceremony is scheduled for November 2nd.
