Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – After a traffic accident with two fatalities, a 32-year-old truck driver was sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment on Friday by the Frankfurt district court. In addition, he has to pay 2,000 euros to the survivors of the two victims. The court convicted him of two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The verdict is not yet final – the public prosecutor’s office had pleaded for eight months, the defense for a lower sentence. (file number 3690 Js 219368/21)

The accident happened in May last year on the hard shoulder of Autobahn 3 at Frankfurt Airport. The truck with the accused at the wheel had left its original lane for unknown reasons and crashed into two cars standing on the hard shoulder at a speed of 90 without braking. A man and a woman died, the truck driver was slightly injured. According to an expert opinion, the truck was in technically perfect condition. According to the verdict, the misconduct must therefore be attributed solely to the driver, who should not have simply left his lane.
