Gießen (dpa / lhe) – A free-roaming dog frightened passengers in a regional train and triggered an operation by the federal police. The owner didn’t notice anything late Monday evening because she fell asleep, as the federal police announced on Tuesday in Kassel. When she had to get off in Gießen with her animal – according to the police it was a fighting dog – she got into a fight with the federal police and, according to the information, became violent. Now the 33-year-old, for whom a breath alcohol test showed almost two per thousand, has to deal with criminal proceedings, among other things, because of a physical attack on law enforcement officers.

The dog walked around the train without a muzzle and leash, the police reported, and several travelers felt threatened. A federal police patrol, informed by a train attendant, awaited the owner in Gießen. But the 33-year-old refused to leash and muzzle the dog, which a federal police officer eventually did. At a police station, the woman then hit a federal police officer in the face with the flat of her hand, but she was unharmed. The 33-year-old was eventually taken to a psychiatric facility because of suicidal intentions.
