Hochheim (dpa/lhe) – Two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars on Autobahn 671 near Hochheim. The highway had to be briefly closed in both directions during the collision on Monday evening, the police said.
Before that, two vehicles were driving in a row at around 5:30 p.m. on the A671 in the direction of Darmstadt. The 53-year-old man behind him crashed his car into the rear of a 50-year-old driving in front of him at the Hochheim-Nord junction. According to the police, the 50-year-old then drove his car into the right lane, while the 53-year-old crashed into the middle guardrail to the left and brushed along it. He then drove over the warning beacons in a construction site and finally got into the oncoming lane. There his car crashed head-on into an oncoming car belonging to a 58-year-old. Both men were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, officials said.
The full closure in the direction of Darmstadt was lifted again after a short time, and according to the police, the lane in the direction of Wiesbaden was free again from 9:00 p.m.
