Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – After a knife attack at a kiosk in Frankfurt, a 43-year-old man was permanently housed in a psychiatric ward. The judges at the Frankfurt Regional Court followed the recommendation of a psychiatric expert on Tuesday, who had spoken of a significant risk of recurrence. In August last year, the accused got into an argument at the kiosk in Frankfurt-Rödelheim with a 27-year-old who had apparently provoked him. After a verbal exchange of blows, he suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed. The victim had to be treated in hospital.

According to the verdict, the man has been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia for several years. Even after his arrest, he stated that he was an employee of the secret service. In court, the defense attorney read out a confession statement in his place. Both the prosecution and the defense advocated the placement of the perpetrator. In view of its danger to the general public, there is no alternative, the decision said.
