Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The state of Hesse has passed on around 187 million euros from the federal government to the municipalities to finance refugee aid. The money for accommodation, food and care for the refugees will be distributed to the districts and independent cities according to the latest population figures, the interior, finance and social ministries announced in Wiesbaden on Tuesday. According to the information, the largest sum flowed to Frankfurt with around 22.6 million euros.
The state is expected to spend more than 820 million euros from the state budget on refugee aid in 2022, the ministries said. “From this, the Hessian municipalities will be supported with around 600 million euros via the existing regulations.” Together with the federal funds, the municipalities would receive a total of almost 790 million euros for refugee aid this year.
