Haiger/Dillenburg (dpa/lhe) – A student found a fragmentation grenade from World War II while playing in a forest in the Lahn-Dill district. But instead of touching the explosive device, he photographed it, wrote down the geo-coordinates and took it to the police. The 14-year-old “acted exactly right”, the police in Dillenburg praised the youngster’s commitment on Thursday. Experts from the State Criminal Police Office rendered the mortar shell harmless just a few hours after it was discovered near Haiger on Tuesday. The residents did not have to leave their homes for this.
