Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Hessian tourism is picking up speed again. The number of guests in the accommodation facilities in the state in May was 1.3 million people, almost four times as high as in the same month last year (plus 373 percent), as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden. After the relaxation of the corona rules, the million mark was exceeded for the first time since October 2021. The number of overnight stays tripled to 2.9 million (plus 204 percent).
According to the statisticians, the strongest growth in the number of overnight stays in Hesse compared to May of the previous year was registered by the companies in Frankfurt (plus 335 percent). The district of Fulda (plus 295 percent) and the Main-Taunus district (plus 277 percent) also benefited greatly from the relaxed corona requirements. The lowest year-on-year increases were recorded in the Wetterau district (plus 57 percent), the Main-Kinzig district (plus 85 percent) and the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg (plus 111 percent).
