Grünberg (dpa / lhe) – Two police officers were injured when they were deployed at a folk festival in Grünberg in central Hesse (district of Gießen). According to the police, several police officers were called by a rescue team and an ambulance early on Sunday morning because a bleeding and probably drunk man did not want to be treated. After the injured man was fixed on a stretcher with the help of the police and taken to an ambulance, the police officers were reportedly attacked first by a single man and then by a group. A major scuffle ensued, in which the two police officers, aged 33 and 56, were injured.

Because several people continued to behave aggressively despite warnings and evictions, the police finally used pepper spray, the officials said. One of the attackers, a 30-year-old, was arrested. Since he appeared drunk, a blood sample was taken from him. After his personal details were recorded, he was released. The other people in the group fled. In their further investigations, the police hope that a bodycam will record the operation. She is also looking for witnesses to the incident, which happened around 1am. Several criminal proceedings have been initiated.
