Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The voting age in local elections in Hesse will not be lowered to 16 years. After an emotional debate, the SPD parliamentary group’s draft law did not get a majority in the third reading on Wednesday in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden. This means that active voting rights from the age of 18 continue to apply at the municipal level in Hesse, as is the case in federal and state elections in Hesse.
