Verl (dpa/lhe) – Third division soccer team SV Wehen Wiesbaden missed a win in the last game of the year. The Hessians only played 1-1 (0-1) at SC Verl on Saturday and now have 31 points to their credit. The gap to the leader SV Elversberg is already ten points. Saarbrücken (33) as second is within reach. An own goal by Verl’s goalkeeper Niclas Thiede (43rd minute) gave SVWW the lead. Vinko Šapina (67th) later equalized for the home side with a penalty kick.
Neither team was able to gain an advantage in the uneventful game. Both teams concentrated primarily on defense and were very compact. The guests finally took the lead through an unfortunate own goal. With the exception of a shot by Johannes Wurtz, the Hessians limited themselves to standard situations.
After the restart, both teams dared more and thus had occasional chances. The penalty whistle to equalize East Westphalia was at least questionable. The draw was performance-based in the end. Wehen Wiesbaden still has good chances in the fight for promotion.
