Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – After an attack with a cleaver on his wife, the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office has brought charges against a 50-year-old. The prosecutor Nadja Niesen said on Friday that the charges were twofold attempted murder. The crime is said to have happened in January of this year in front of a restaurant in downtown Frankfurt.

The woman had separated from the Vietnamese husband the day before and reported him to the police for various violent crimes. Because, according to the indictment, he did not want to accept the separation, he pursued the woman on the day of the crime and took her away from her job. When he approached her with knives and two cleavers, she fled into the restaurant. After that, the man tried several times in vain to smash the door with the hatchet. He also threatened an acquaintance of the woman who came to her aid. In both cases, the public prosecutor’s office assumes the murder characteristics of malice and base motives.

After his arrest at the scene of the crime, the 50-year-old said he wanted to “shoot the woman with a pistol next time”. After that, he said nothing more about the matter. He brings with him a criminal record of more than five years in prison. Before 2009 he had repeatedly raped his first wife. Dates for the hearing before the jury chamber of the district court have not yet been set.
