Last night in Morocco, five forest firefighters from the Generalitat Valenciana managed to rescue a nine-year-old girl who was under the ruins after the earthquake that devastated the country last Saturday.
“After much fighting, after spending 18 hours clearing 15 cubic meters of earth and stones, we managed to get her out alive. It will be difficult to forget the heartbreaking image of the rescue of the girl rolled in a blanket, along with the joy and celebration of her family for recovering her “, said Edgar Xavier Juan.
Firefighters are carrying out humanitarian missions in Morocco, after the earthquake disaster that occurred in Marrakech, and in Libya, following the floods caused by Storm Daniel. In addition, Rafael Lisa, a member of the Mutxamel Heliborne Unit, has joined the rescue team of the GEA Spain association and the volunteers of the URIF International Forest Fire Response Unit Edgar Xavier Juan (Castelló de Rugat) and Iván Jordá (Unit Cocoll helitransport) are participating together with Manuel Ruiz (Castelló unit), from Bombers pel Món, in an aid device.
All of them, along with 13 other volunteers from different organizations, will carry out rescue and rescue tasks until September 15, as reported by the Generalitat in a statement. To carry out the interventions, forest firefighters participate in groups of which they are part along with doctors, nurses, NGO volunteers and members of other bodies.
According to those responsible for the project, the work of local devices is being reinforced, especially in areas of inhospitable villages that are cut off.
At the same time, this morning, Xevi Bolumar (Xérica unit) took off for Libya along with five more volunteers from Bombers pel Món, in order to carry out rescue tasks after the devastating floods that have left more than 5,000 people missing.
To facilitate their ability to carry out this mission, the Valencian Society for Comprehensive Management of Emergency Services (SGISE) has granted paid permits to the workers who have requested it, and they have been authorized to carry and use the PPE. .
